It's been quite odd watching a stream of Apple iPod users vigorously defending Apple while they kept up the usual drumbeat against Microsoft's policy of supporting any iPod-like device, as long as it sticks to supporting Windows formats and PCs. Apparently, millions of users would rather limit their hardware choices if it means they have more choice when it comes to data and software. Something important is happening here. No one is immune from what's going on -- even Apple has embraced open standards.
