Everybody Has a Share, Day One
Today marks the fourth anniversary of my first TypePad blog, and I'm commemorating it in a special way, by beginning to write and post an entire book on a blog. Everybody Has a Share: Myth, Madness and Momentum in the Digital Decade is a book about the historic impact of open source, open standards, security, and privacy on all of us. Join me there for the fun.

How the 1960s shaped the personal computer
Coming on April 25: What the Dormouse Said: How the 60s Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer, by John Markoff. Now of the New York Times, Markoff and I were in adjoining cubicles in 1981 at InfoWorld. We shared a single NorthStar computer with two monitors and a switch box, so only one of us could be using the NorthStar at a time. Markoff is the perfect writer for this book.
