Thoughts on installing my first Firefox security patch

I just installed my first Firefox security patch. I missed Windows Update! The Mozilla/Firefox patch mechanism essentially requires users to inspect Firefox afterward to confirm that the patch "took." I'd rather have the Windows Update-style confirmation process. Ironically, I gather it's the ActiveX-based nature of how Windows Update works that makes it so friendly during its operation, and yet also so vulnerable to becoming Microsoft's own worst security hole -- the one vulnerability Microsoft apparently dare not patch in the current scheme of things.
