Unbundling: A fool's errand

Here's my two cents about the European Union's fine and sanctions against Microsoft. I have to agree that a legal crusade to mandate unbundling is a fool's errand. It would have been far better for the EU to focus strictly on the barriers to competition, by identifying instances where Microsoft software such as Windows Media Player are using APIs not available to competitors; or, to revisit the http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/24/technology/24soft.html">pressure Microsoft brings to bear on PC and device makers to spurn competitive technologies.
