Office 2003 broke (uninstalled) an earlier Office app
Not exactly a security story, but definitely related to my earlier posts today: Installing Office 2003 "breaks" (uninstalls) an earlier Office application, Microsoft Photo Editor. With effort (and an Office XP CD-ROM), the older program can be reinstalled, but one must ask: What good reason could Microsoft have for removing software that the user legitimately purchased? If it's that easy for Microsoft to do this, imagine what some of the upcoming service packs and patches could remove or disable, provided there's a compelling security reason.
