Another way open source finds its way into widespread use
The Lost Olive talks about "the threat Microsoft has made against nonprofits/schools accepting donated computers." Drilling further into the relevant Microsoft Web page; at a minimum, recipients are required to possess "a Windows Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker ... accompanied by some form of proof that they were donated [in order to] have sufficient documentation for a valid Windows operating system license." Otherwise, presumably, a Microsoft audit could result in prosecution. As open source software gets better, one begins to understand why situations like this become a strong incentive for some users to just chuck the whole Windows headache and go with GNU/Linux.
