This is what I'm currently reading. Marvelous debunking of the cyberlibertarian religion. (*****)
Todd Oppenheimer: Flickering Mind
I helped Todd with research a bit when he delved into the early 1980s "computers in the classroom" phenomenon. Too bad the idea's been used since then as a pretext for slashing funding for art and music courses, which some studies show is far better for improving test scores than sticking a young child in front of a PC. I'm an independent tech writer, editor and podcaster.
I'm a writer and editor based in Berkeley, California. Since June 2004, I've been the host of Opening Move, a series of podcasts from IT Conversations. I'm creator of Calendar Swamp, a journal/podcast focused on calendar interoperability. I also freelance for Gannett Healthcare Group, publishers of NurseWeek and Today in PT. I've worked for InfoWorld, Byte Magazine, Stardust.com, Boardwatch, Penton Media and The Golden Group, where I was editorial director for the ISPCON conference. Disclaimer: I receive no fees or considerations for the posts on these online journals, aside from revenue from Google ads. I was born in Michigan, caught the audio-recording bug early (see 1960 photograph, below) and have lived in California since 1960, except for 9 years in Maryland (1985-1994).
